The aim of her project is to help people suffering from TMD. It is a condition often
accompanied by physical pain that blocks the natural use of the voice, but also by
psychological consequences such as stress, anxiety and depression. Many patients
have associated symptoms or concomitant disorders such as bruxism or mental
effects all due to TMD.
Traditionally in music and psychotherapy, TMD was always seen as an obstacle or as
an “imposed silence”. With this project, Yuliya wants to help people to reform their
relationship with their voice and the voice itself.
The voice can become a tool for transforming and subjectivizing pain: it works as a
means of transforming pain through sound, increasing awareness of one’s own voice
– internal and external.
In this context, music therapy should not be perceived as a rigid, annoying therapy
method, but as something beautiful, creative and relaxing. Yuliya wants to
communicate a more playful and positive approach to the treatment of TMD, because
patients should not have to be anxious. The main objectives of the project are to re-
establish a dialogue with oneself and to find a certain inner peace.
Usually, those who suffer from TMD develop coping mechanisms to live with the pain.
Through music therapy, we try to develop healthy and relaxing strategies that help re-
establish a more harmonic relationship with one’s body and voice.
The project is particularly aimed at those who use their voice as a professional tool,
such as singers or teachers, but it is suitable for anyone. The voice is the body’s tool
through which we express ourselves at all levels. Also, those who do not sing
professionally need to feel confident in their body and their way of communicating.
The effects of DTM on mental well-being are significant. Everyone deserves to have
a peaceful and secure relationship with their external and internal voice.
